Climate compensation with TrailCred

Gotaleden Relay & Ultra partners up with Trail Cred to compensate for the climate impact of the race, where participants are encuraged to compansate for their travel to and from the race.

Trail Cred have calculated the total climate footprint of the event and the team behind the race, Gotaleden Relay & Ultra non-profit organisation, have decided to make a donation for the carbon equivalent of the race on site, into protection in old growth forest.

And now it is up to you as a participant to get your Trail Cred! Contribute by compensating for your travel to and from the race.

Other efforts

We will minimize negative environmental and climate impact during the implementation of the race:

1. Environmental considerations
Waste sorting and waste stations:
Clear stations for recycling and residual waste at the start, finish and transition areas.

Plastic reduction:
Only biodegradable cups/bottles at hydration stations.

Eco-friendly course markings:
Biodegradable markings and reusable signs.

2. Transport and travel
Public transport solutions: Start and finish areas are adapted for easy access to public transport (commuter train, bus).

Carpooling: Actively encourage carpooling among participants and officials

3. Local and organic
Focus on locally produced and organic food at stations and the finish area.
Collaborations with small businesses and local producers to strengthen the economy along the route.

We will implement active initiatives aimed at improving the environment and/or reducing climate impact:

1. Sustainable travel for participants
Public transport solutions in collaboration with Västtrafik
Buses: Collaboration with Vårgårdabuss for transport with shared buses to/from Gothenburg, Lerum, Alingsås and other locations.

Reward cycling/walking: Encourage officials and local spectators to cycle or walk to the track’s public areas.

2. Reduce disposable items & waste
Plastic-free hydration stations: Use reusable cups, or ask runners to bring their own cups/bottles.

Sorting stations: Clear sorting stations at the start, finish and hydration stations.

Engaging volunteers: Have “garbage guards” who help keep the trails clean.

3. Eco-friendly purchasing
Local food & drink: Use local suppliers for energy, food and drink for short supply chains.

Vegetarian first: Offer primarily plant-based alternatives to runners.

Eco-friendly products: Use eco-friendly products when printing signs, number plates, etc.

We will combat discrimination and promote equal treatment:

Inclusive competition format

We offer classes that are open and inclusive with mixed relay teams which are an open class without gender division.

Our future plan also includes classes for runners with functional variations and classes for children of different ages.

We show diversity in our marketing by using images that reflect different ages, genders, body types and backgrounds.
